Business Storage Organization Tips for Quick Access

In our hectic lives, finding the right item in a cluttered storage space is a hassle we can live without. When quick access is required to a multitude of items in your unit, there are some key things to keep in mind when organizing your storage inventory. Check out these tips to help your space stay orderly so you can get what you need in a hurry.

  • Depending upon the amount of items being stored, you want to break down your items into specific categories to help you visualize where everything is going to go. Things to be considered are: weight, size and fragility, frequency of access, and rotation of items (if required).
  • Create an aisle. Make sure that you always have a clear path in and out of your unit to avoid tripping over or damaging your inventory.
  • Determine what will be accessed most. Consider the weight of your items vs. how often you will need access to them so that you can keep the heavier yet more accessed items on the bottom and closer to the entrance of your unit. This will help you to get the larger and more popular items out (and in, if you need to replenish them) of your unit quickly and with little difficulty. Store more fragile and/or least-needed items in spots of your unit that are rarely accessed. Accidents can also be better avoided if those lesser-used boxes and totes are out of the way.
  • Keeping a routine. Make organizing a part of your standard routine so that you can analyze the process and make adjustments beforehand rather than have to remove items and re-adjust multiple times.

Following these steps can keep your life on the go, so you have more time to focus on your work. Stop by your local Jack Rabbit to learn more about storage solutions that are right for you and your business.
